OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2008. In January-June, 2008, the port of St. Petersburg handled 29.6 million tonnes (+4.9%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, transshipment of oil products amounted to 6.6 million tonnes (+4.2%, year-on-year). Sea Port of Saint Petersburg OJSC accounts for 18.6% of the port’s total throughput, 19.6% - First Container Terminal CJSC, 9.4% - Baltic Bulk Terminal, 19.08% - Petersburg Oil Terminal.

In the reported period, 27 stevedoring companies operated at the territory of the port.

Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands in the mouth of the Neva-river, in the Neva Bay at the eastern side of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea). The Big Port of St. Petersburg includes the mouth of the Neva-river, the NevaBay, Kronshtadt and the complex of structures protecting St. Petersburg from flood (the dam). Icebreaker assistance is carried out within winter navigation.
The Port’s water area consists of 5 basins: Vostochny, Barochny, Passazhirski, Lesnoi Mol roads and Ugolnaya (Coal) Harbor covering the total area of 360 hectares. The port’s territory is 269 hectares. The Port is linked with the sea by a 27-mile Marine Canal.
