OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2008. Bryansk Carriage Works (BMZ) has manufactured the 10,000th freight bunker. It was a cement rail car, reported the press-centre of Transmashholding.

The bunker freight carriages are a complete model line designed to carry bulk materials with loading performed through top hatches and gravity unloading under the car or through bottom hatches. The type cars are pressurized and protect the bulk from water and dust.

BMZ, which has existed for over 25 years, has launched into production a wide variety of products. For instance, 19-3054 and 19-3116 series hopper cars designed for the transportation of grain and fertilizers, 19-3018 model cars for cement, as well as cars used to carry rails, pipes, wood, and coal.

The first batch of 19-3054 model hoppers was made in 1993. It took the plant 15 years to build the first 10,000 rail cars. Given the current production volumes, the 20,000th car will be manufactured in around three years.

In 2003 an engineer team of Bryansk carriage makers worked out a unique hopper design with a drop-shaped body, model 19-3116. Around 2,000 cars of the model in four modifications have been produced as of now.

The 19-3018 cars for cement transportation have also overcome the 1,000 threshold. The product is now enjoying the highest demand with 200 cars produced monthly.

In the first half of 2008, BMZ and CJSC Transmashholding engineers worked out design documentation for the 19-3130 model hopper to carry fertilizers and soda ash with the axial load of 25 metric tons. The documentation is now being coordinated with JSC Russian Railways.

Carriage building is one of the fastest developing spheres of BMZ production. In the mid 199th the monthly production was around 20-30 cars. By today it has seen a tenfold increase to 240 carriages. The customers buying BMZ cars are the following companies well known both in Russia and abroad: Sovtekhnotrans, Evrosib, Evrokhim, TransGroup AS, and others.
