South African Republic has big uranium reserves and the world’s second biggest deposit of fluorspar, a matter processed into fluorine for production of natural uranium hexafluoride.

The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation on the production of uranium hexafluoride and the possibility of provision of AECC’s uranium enrichment services to South African consumers.

The guests said that South African Republic was planning to actively develop nuclear energy. In this light, the experience of AECC – one of the most advanced sublimation-separation complexes of Russia – might prove quite useful for the South African colleagues. The guests were impressed with the centrifugal technology used at AECC.

The parties were satisfied with the results of their negotiations and expressed hope for long-term fruitful cooperation. In conclusion, the guests made a trip to Lake Baikal.
