OREANDA-NEWS  On 02 June was announced, that Ukio bankas, Lithuania’s oldest commercial bank, introduced and offered to its clients the most modern and safest tool of using internet banking – a mobile electronic signature. From now on Ukio bankas clients will be able to connect to the internet banking system Eta bankas via a mobile phone.

Ukio bankas, marking its 20th anniversary this year, is the first bank in Lithuania having introduced an option of a mobile electronic signature – the first identification via a mobile phone was performed in Ukio bankas back in 2005. Today the clients are offered a more convenient method of electronic signing that is better adapted for use.

Presently, connection to Eta bankas using an electronic signature is available to the clients using Omnitel mobile connection.

“The advantage of this electronic identification method lies in its reliability, security and speed. Apart from that, it is convenient and simple to use,” said Jolita Kiausiene, director of Ukio bankas Electronic Banking Department. “The client does not need have a code card or a digipass, which quite often are left at home or work. It is enough just to have a mobile phone, which as a rule, is always carried with us.”

In the works of J. Kiausiene, accounts and transactions on the internet bank have several levels of security: regular connection codes and passwords, mobile telephone PIN and sPIN codes.

Like in the case of a PIN/TAN code card or a digipass, you will have to use the electronic signature every time performing banking transactions – signing deposit agreement or confirming payment orders. The clients can also use the same electronic signature when connecting to other internet services using the electronic signature.

“When willing to start using the mobile electronic signature, it will be enough for Omnitel users to have their SIM cards replaced with the new ones having the functions necessary for the electronic signature,” Omnitel marketing director Giedrius Makauskas said. “This year Omnitel replaces these cards for free. Users may have their SIM cards replaced at any Omnitel salons upon presenting a personal identification document.”

Ukio bankas has already introduced the possibilities of connecting to Eta bankas by using electronic signature tools of the new personal identification cards. As soon as Lithuanian competent authorities complete coordinating the procedures of the new card use, Ukio bankas will offer its clients using this method of connecting to Eta bankas.

Ukio bankas implemented electronic signature options together with the telecommunications company Omnitel and software developing company UAB Etronika.
