OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2009. During a meeting in Novovoronezh on June 25 2009 Governor of Voronezh region Aleskey Gordeev and Director General of Atomenergoproekt OJSC Vladimir Generalov signed an agreement for cooperation between the Government of Voronezh region and Atomenergoproekt.

The agreement is aimed at developing and strengthening the energy system of Russia and the industrial potential of Voronezh region and, particularly, at ensuring the parties’ effective interaction in solving the social, industrial, economic, educational, ecological and other problems arising in the framework of the construction of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2. 

The agreement envisages exchange of information and joint resolution of problems emerging under the Novovoronezh NPP-2 project as well as use of the industrial and scientific-technical capacities of Atomenergoproekt OJSC in the framework of programs to develop the industry of Voronezh region.

Particularly, Atomenergoproekt has pledged to actively use the capacities of construction and manufacturing companies of Voronezh region under the Novovoronezh NPP-2 project while the Government of Voronezh region has promised to provide organizational and information support to the project and to solve related financial, economic, personnel and social problems as well as to help to enhance the efficiency of energy production in the region, to intensify the construction of temporary and permanent housing for the construction and operating personnel of Novovoronezh NPP-2 and to solve the transportation problems that are arising during the construction of the plant and may arise in the course of its future operation.

The parties have also agreed to make joint efforts to improve the public attitude towards nuclear energy.

“Our constructive cooperation with the regional authorities helps us to enhance the efficiency of the Novovoronezh NPP-2 project. This agreement will raise this cooperation to a new qualitative level. We will cooperate on a very wide spectrum of problems. The Government of Voronezh region pays special attention to open dialogue with the public. The opening of an information center for nuclear energy in Voronezh has become the first specific step in this direction,” Director General of Atomenergoproekt OJSC Vladimir Generalov said.
