OREANDA-NEWS On 08 October was announced, that Belarus may increase its transit capabilities five times. This information said  Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Tur during a transport congress. 

“Belarus is using just 20% of its potential. We are capable of increasing our transit capacity five times, based on our geographic location and proximity to Russia and the EU,” Tur said. 

Transit does not only involve construction of warehouses, roads and automobile and railway fleet, Tur said. “Transport logistics also involves investment in information provision, identification of commodities, banking sector,” he added. 

Transport logistics will define Belarus’ socioeconomic development for the next five years, Tur believes. 

“Belarus is located between two economic powers – the EU with total GDP of U.S. USD 11.5 trillion and Russia, with GDP standing at USD 1.8 trillion in 2008. Besides, the Customs Union will start working on January 1, 2010,” he said.
