OREANDA-NEWS. January 5, 2010. MMK produced the first trial lot of cold rolled band from the 420 HSLA grade.

The lot of cold rolled band from the micro-alloyed HC420LA grade was produced and shipped for export in the Company's # 8 Rolling Shop. This steel grade is characterized by high strength which allows to reduce the thickness of steel, and hence the overall weight of the end product. One of the hurdles to a wider adoption of HSLA steels in Russia is that Russian standards do not regulate their use, which explains why the trial lot was shipped to a foreign customer.

A broad spectrum of laboratory tests has been made with an eye to expanding the range of rolled products from the HC420LA grade to the EN 10268:2006 standard which is currently limited to a band 1.8 mm thick and up to 480 mm wide. Samples for acceptance tests have been prepared for sending to foreign and Russian customers.
