OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2010. This May Azerbaijan’s industrial production rose by 2.1% against the indicator of April.

The State Statistics Committee (SSC) informs that for Jan-May of the year country’s industrial output reached AZN 12.1 bn (USD 15.177 bn in accord with average exchange rate of AZN 0.8 to the US dollar) that is by 4.3% more versus Jan-May 2009.

At that, this May industrial production reached only AZN 2.526 bn against AZN 2.47 bn in April, AZN 2.48 bn in March, AZN 2.117 bn in February and AZN 2.543 bn in January of the year. Last December’s industrial production reached AZN 2.4 bn that became the best monthly index. In 2009, the indicator was AZN 22.2 bn (USD 27.75 bn).

In 2008, industrial production made AZN 28.05 bn (USD 34.209 bn) that is by 6% more versus the 2007 index.

For Jan-May 2010, industrial production in the state sector made AZN 2.149 bn with year-on-year rise of 9.2% and AZN 9.99 bn with growth by 3.3% - in non-state sector.

For Jan-May of the year production in extracting industry made AZN 9.478 bn or 78.1% of entire industrial output, processing industry AZN 2.018 bn or 16.6%, energy and gas sector AZN 586.2 bn or 4.8% and the rest volume, which totaled AZN 57.8 bn or 0.5%, fell on the share of water supply, sewage treatment and utilization of hard waste.

Production in extracting industry rose by 3.3% and 8.9% in processing industry, by 2.7% in energy and gas sectors, and by 0.5% in water supply and waste utilization.

This May tendency of Feb-Jul 2008 and Jan-Feb 2010 when industrial output rise surpassed GDP ceased. For Jan-May their growth was equal (by +4.3%).

In 2009, industrial sector lagged by 0.7% from country’s GDP dynamics that growth by 9.3% was observed in comparable prices.
