OREANDA-NEWS. June 13, 2012. The International Energy Agency (IEA) hosted a discussion on the global trends in managing energy efficiency in the countries, regions, industries and individual businesses. The meeting took place at the IEA’s headquarters in Paris.

SCM was represented by Natalia Yemchenko, Director of Public Relations and Communications, who said: “The problem of energy saving and energy efficiency has never been more acute not only in Ukraine whose energy saving potential is around USD 16 billion, according to Ukrainian Energy Index, first produced in 2011 at SCM’s initiative. This is a pressing problem confronting the whole world. Today Europe is moving from obscure declarations to setting clear quantitative objectives. This is especially true for production sector with its tremendous energy saving potential. Ukraine also needs such long-term targets at the level of the country, its regions and down to individual businesses. Such targets will soon appear at SCM’s businesses.”

The delegates put an emphasis on the need to both reduce energy consumption and introduce drastic changes in the appoaches to energy use: the world has to learn to assess economic, environmental and social effects from improved energy efficiency.
