OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2012. The project “Waste biomass recovery” at Arkhangelsk PPM, JSC, implemented in accordance with article 6 of the Kyoto Protocol, is registered (№ RU1000366) by Secretariat UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). According to project documentation, the reductions of greenhouse gas emissions due to project’s implementation from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2012 are estimated at 1.021 million tones of CO2-eq. In fact confirmed emissions reductions totaled 653 684 tones of CO2-eq during four years (2008–2011). The company Gazprom Marketing & Trading Limited is a business partner of Arkhangelsk PPM, JSC and the purchaser of reductions emissions.

As explained the head of the climate change and regulations of greenhouse gases emissions Working group of the environmental, industrial and technological security RUIE Committee Michael Yulkin, registration is an important step in the implementation of the Kyoto project. He also reminded that the company began to control greenhouse gas emissions in 2002, after there was the first comprehensive inventory of emissions since 1990 on the mill. In 2003 APPM has become the first company that has adopted quantitative obligations concerning emissions reduction. In 2007–2008 APPM has received about 1 million euros for early (before Kyoto) reductions greenhouse gas emissions upon the project of biomass utilization.
