OREANDA-NEWS India is investing more than $15 billion in the construction of three semiconductor manufacturing plants. CNBC writes about this with reference to the decision of the government of the republic.

"India already has great opportunities in the field of chip development. Thanks to these enterprises, our country will expand production opportunities," the Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement. The country is striving to become a major center for the production of microchips, competing with the United States, Taiwan and South Korea, and is actively attracting foreign financing.

The first plant will be built by the Indian company Tata Electronics in partnership with the Taiwanese corporation Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing in Dholera, Gujarat. Investments in this production will amount to almost $ 11 billion, the plant will produce chips measuring 28 nanometers or more (considered obsolete), which can be used in the automotive industry, consumer electronics and defense industries.

The government also approved the establishment of the Tata Semiconductor plant in Assam state (investments will amount to about 3.26 billion dollars) and a joint production site of CG Power, Japanese Renesas Electronics Corporation and Thai Stars Microelectronics. It is reported that the construction of all three facilities should begin within the next 100 days.

Earlier it became known that India decided to start production of its own brand of smartphones. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav noted that the success of the republic in the large-scale production of smartphones from foreign manufacturers has given the determination to create new production sites in the country. "We will also work purposefully to create a full—fledged ecosystem of mobile phones," the official said.
