OREANDA-NEWS. A mass shooting occurred at the base of the naval aviation in the city of Pensacola (state of Florida, the United States).

The local TV channel WEAR ABC3 reports about five victims who were taken to a hospital. Pensacola News Journal reports about 11 injured people.

A Facebook airbase group wrote that all gates were closed due to reports about shooting. A Facebook message from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reported that by 7:48 a.m. local time, the shooting ceased.

The shooter is dead. According to North Escambia, he was shot dead by police. The area around the base is closed to unauthorized persons.

The US Navy’s statement on Facebook says that, beside the shooter, another person died, and “unknown number of injured people being transferred to local hospitals.”

North Escambia notes that on December 6, a memorial ceremony dedicated to the Second World War and a concert of the school jazz band were to be held at the base. It is mentioned on the Facebook page of the air base that the ceremony was supposed to be dedicated to the anniversary of the Japanese air attack on the Naval Station Pearl Harbor in 1941. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 8:00 local time, but an hour before that, shooting started.

Over the past days, this is the second case of firing at a naval base in the United States. On December 5, the American military man opened fire at the Pearl Harbor base in Hawaii. The shooter committed suicide. In addition to him, two more people died.
