OREANDA-NEWSMeetings of the BRICS working group on countering terrorism began on Thursday in Brasilia. The Russian delegation is headed by Director of the Department for New Challenges and Threats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vladimir Tarabrin, a Russian media correspondent was told at the Russian Embassy.

In particular, the topics of the meeting that took place on these days and the three-day seminar that preceded it included issues such as the use of the Internet and social networks for terrorist purposes, mechanisms for identifying the financing of terrorism, preventing the spread of radical views, and the need to constantly improve the work of relevant structures. According to the Brazilian Chairmanship, delegations will also exchange views on their strategic vision of the fight against terrorism, as well as approaches to its eradication on a global scale.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministers of the BRICS countries in their statement on the outcome of the meeting in Rio de Janeiro on July 26 noted the successful work of the "five" in the anti-terrorist direction, recalling the current meeting of the working group in the capital of the South American republic. As expected, during the negotiations ending on Friday, the parties should lay the foundation for further discussions and agreements on the upcoming contacts of high-level representatives on security issues, scheduled for October 17-18 also in Brasilia.

The ministerial meeting was preparatory to the summit to be held in Rio de Janeiro on December 13-14. And he, accordingly, will mark the completion of the Brazilian presidency and the transition to Russia, whose authorities will hold a summit in St. Petersburg. The chairmanship's priorities are generally clear now.
