OREANDA-NEWS. Iran hopes that the United States will take steps to peacefully resolve tensions between the two countries. This was announced on Thursday by the adviser to the Iranian president, Hesameddin Ashen. “The world will be safer if the United States returns to diplomatic politics and fulfills its obligations”, he wrote on his Twitter page. The politician added that, although Iran is ready for any outcome of the situation, the option of its peaceful resolution is preferable.

On December 31, a mass rally began in front of the US embassy in Baghdad in protest against the US Air Force’s attack on the Shia’s Kataib Hezbollah group in the Iraqi city of Al-Qaim, bordering on Syria, the day before. As a result of the raid, 25 people were killed, at least 50 militias were injured. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said that the "terrorists and allies of Iran" are behind the organization of the attack on the complex of the US Embassy in Baghdad.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry protested the United States in connection with the "militaristic statements" of the American authorities, advising them to drop groundless accusations against Tehran.
