OREANDA-NEWSCountries - guarantors of the Astana process - Russia, Turkey and Iran - have not yet appealed to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry with a request for the date of the international meeting on Syria in Nur Sultan. This was announced on Monday at a briefing by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Shahrat Nuryshev.

"The intention is to hold a meeting in March following the results of the December meeting in the framework of the Astana process. But the guarantor countries have not yet confirmed specific dates for this event. Therefore, we will expect concrete proposals from them and then make an appropriate decision", said Nuryshev, responding to the question whether Kazakhstan received an offer from guarantor countries to hold talks on Syria in March.

Earlier, Prime Minister Askar Mamin of Kazakhstan instructed the Foreign Ministry to prepare a proposal to postpone major events in the country due to the spread of coronavirus. The previous high-level meeting on Syria in the Astana format was held in the capital of Kazakhstan on December 10-11, 2019. It was attended by delegations from the Syrian government and the Syrian armed opposition.
