OREANDA-NEWS Turkey is under the threat of expulsion from NATO due to the position of its leadership on the membership of Finland and Sweden in the alliance, CNN correspondent David Andelman wrote in Gazeta.ru.

According to the journalist, there were already prerequisites for expulsion of Turkey from North Atlantic Alliance. For example, such a precedent was the purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems by Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

However, the decision to expel could significantly weaken NATO in a strategically important region, Andelman explained.

The piece also calls Erdoğan a "useful friend" to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as his Turkish counterpart's position allows him to continue on his intended course in the special operation in Ukraine.

Earlier, President Erdoğan said that Turkey would not approve of Sweden and Finland joining NATO.
