OREANDA-NEWS The European Parliament adopted a resolution on May 19 calling on former EU politicians, including former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, to resign from Russian companies, according to a Gazeta.ru report.

The calls are also directed at former Finnish Prime Minister Esko Aho, former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, former Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, and Austrian diplomat Karin Kneissl, who is on the board of Russian Rosneft.

MEPs also called on the EU Council to impose sanctions on Europeans who sit on the boards of directors of major Russian companies, as well as politicians "who continue to receive Russian money.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the heads of the LNR and DNR. The decision to conduct the operation became the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
