OREANDA-NEWSTurkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Thursday that the commissioning of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) will continue until spring 2020. "The work, after which these S-400 air defense systems will work in full force, will continue until the spring of 2020", the Turkish media quoted him as saying.

Akar also said that Ankara is still continuing to negotiate with Washington on possible supplies of American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. In July of this year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that "the active use of the S-400 can begin in April 2020" after the Turkish military specialists undergo the necessary training.

In September 2017, the Russian Federation announced the conclusion of a contract with Turkey for the supply of S-400 worth $ 2.5 billion. Ankara will receive a regiment set (two divisions). The contract implies a partial transfer of production technologies to the Turkish side. The first deliveries began on July 12th. The US and NATO are actively opposing the acquisition of S-400 by Turkey.
