OREANDA-NEWS. US Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine, William Taylor, considers it appropriate to introduce UN peacekeeping forces to the Donbass. The acting head of the American diplomatic mission, leaving Kiev at the beginning of next year, said this in an interview with a Ukrainian publication published on Friday. According to Taylor, from the US point of view, the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass should ultimately lead to the restoration of full control of Kiev over this region and the introduction of peacekeepers could be an "intermediate step" in this direction.

"Both Kurt Walker and other well-known people worked on how to achieve this goal", said William Taylor. I’ve heard that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Pristayko recently mentioned this opportunity again. It also seems to me that there is a certain chance and meaning in this".

Taylor also spoke about his hypothetical mission in the Donbass: “Obviously, the UN Security Council should have approved it. By this decision of the Security Council, countries that have the appropriate armed forces could collect them and send them to Donbass. Yes "It would cost money, and countries, including the US, would need to provide these funds in order to collect and send such a contingent to the Donbass. Armed conflict continues in the middle of Europe, and countries should be prepared to pay to stop it".
