OREANDA-NEWSThe United States intends to impose sanctions on Iran until Tehran agrees to a dialogue on a new agreement regarding its nuclear program. This, as the Iranian television channel reported, said on Thursday the US Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook.

"We will continue to impose sanctions against Iran until it agrees to negotiate a new nuclear agreement", Hook said. In his conviction, US sanctions "caused the destruction of the Iranian oil sector". According to the data provided by Hook, "over the year of US sanctions against Tehran, Iran’s oil sales to the world market fell from 2.5 million barrels to 120 thousand barrels".

The US special representative also said that the United States "is also targeting the Iranian missile program, which is the most powerful in the Middle East". Hook, however, noted that the United States "announced the creation of a mechanism with Swiss banks to allow the export of humanitarian goods and medicines to Iran". The problem of the Iranian nuclear dossier sharply worsened after the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018 and the introduction of American economic sanctions in the field of oil exports against Iran.
