OREANDA-NEWS. Possibilities developing the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, harnessing digital content in Moldova, as well as state's policies to support businesses in this area were the main topics discussed at a 21 July meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Orange Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephane Richard.

At the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister referred to the government's priorities concerning the IT sector, stressing the importance of the legal framework regulating the work of enterprises in this sector. In this regard, Prime Minister Filip said that the law in Moldova was friendly, as it gives operators opportunity to develop and create products that can be sold both on the domestic and on the external market. 

"ICT sector is promising for Moldova, it can bring a high added value to the national economy. We, the Government, are open to support investors who come to develop this segment," said Pavel Filip. 

For his part, Stephane Richard talked about the group's activity on international stage, about the prospects for company's development in Moldova, as well as about its openness to participate in modernization of digital infrastructure in Moldova. "Moldova is a small country, but with residents quite interested in information technology," said the Orange Group’s representative.  

During the discussions, the sides also touched upon the modernization of educational institutions in Moldova and creating opportunities for the younger generation to enhance capabilities in IT. 

At the same time, the dialogue was also focused on implementing the National Strategy Digital Moldova 2020, developing programmes ensuring cyber security, increasing the number of public services provided in electronic format and ensuring inter-operability of public institutions.
