OREANDA-NEWS. The American magazine The National Interest stated that emergencies and misunderstandings between the military could lead to an armed conflict between Russia and NATO.

American journalists stressed in the article that now the issues of strengthening communication channels and stabilization in the security sphere are urgent for both sides, since in essence neither the alliance nor Russia wants war.

The publication pointed out the existence of an expert group, which in the past four months has been working hard to prevent a possible conflict. Representatives of Russia, NATO and the EU, the article says, are discussing practical measures to promote the positive development of "complex and turbulent" relations. In particular, the specialists focused on the need to strengthen contacts between politicians and the military, develop rules for interaction in the high seas and airspace, as well as strengthen confidence for safe interaction in the Baltic region.

Experts also argue that the risks associated with the conflict can be reduced by increasing transparency and clarity for both sides in such areas as, for example, the development of new types of weapons and the organization of military exercises.

The authors of the article note that now only chance can lead to confrontation, and both Russia and NATO are aware of the situation and therefore are interested in preventing such incidents. The experts emphasized that today a complete "reset" of the relations between the parties is impossible, but the atmosphere of the discussion is gradually moving towards a positive plane.
