OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2008.  In the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, the United Nations Development Program (under the title: Reforms and beyond the Reforms) presented the report on human development in Georgia. The prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze attended the meeting.

"In our report, the reforms undertaken in Georgia are reviewed from the position of ordinary Georgian citizens”, – the annual report says.

The report is aiming at helping the Georgian government to elaborate the policies which along with economic development will consider the human factor as well. "We hope that based on the success already achieved, we will enhance improvement of those spheres in Georgia’s society which yet need additional assistance", – said Robert Watkins, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia.

The report gives a study of the scope of influence of the recent reforms on individual people and especially on those who live below the poverty threshold. The already implemented reforms are estimated according to the criteria of effectiveness, fairness and sustainability. The report consists of the following main spheres: economy, education, healthcare, environmental protection, energy and the judiciary.

The annual report on human development reflects the situation across the world. The national reports refer to the issues which are characteristic to different countries. Since 1992, under the UNDP support, 580 reports have been published in 130 countries. The National report was first published in Georgia in 2002 and it touched upon the poverty issues.
