OREANDA-NEWS. On September 19, a meeting of the political directors of the Iran Six (United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States and France) was held in Washington to discuss the situation evolving around the Iranian nuclear program. The meeting participants reaffirmed their commitment to a politico-diplomatic settlement on the basis of the renewed proposals of the Six, transmitted to Iran in June this year.

There was emphasized on the Russian side the necessity of continuing efforts to engage Teheran in a constructive dialogue with a view to launching a negotiation process. In this context we spoke against the elaboration at this stage of any additional UN Security Council sanctions.

Simultaneously all meeting participants expressed support to IAEA activities and underscored the need for full and transparent cooperation by Iran with the Agency to clarify all the outstanding questions about its nuclear activities, as was pointed out in the latest report of the IAEA Director General.
