OREANDA-NEWS. December 1, 2008. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul held the talks in Turkmenbashi town.

Cordially greeting the Turkish leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked Abdullah Gul for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan where the long-term and reliable fiends were always welcomed.

Abdullah Gul thanked for the heartfelt welcome and expressed satisfaction at the opportunity to exchange views with the Turkmen leader on the important issues of intergovernmental co-operation, the progress of the bilateral agreements.

The honorary guest emphasized that the people of Turkey had the warm recollections of the Turkmen leader’s official visit to the Republic of Turkey this spring which had laid the good foundation for the further progress of traditional partnership. The Turkish leader said that the high prestige won by Turkmenistan worldwide was conditioned by the high dynamics of economic growth and the policy of open doors and wide international co-operation pursued by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Exchanging views on the perspectives of further co-operation the sides expressed interest in intensifying mutually advantageous co-operation that was successfully developed on the basis of the goodwill of the Turkmen and Turkish peoples.

Discussing the approaches to diversifying co-operation the leaders of Turkmenistan and Turkey paid particular attention to collaboration in the fuel and energy sector, the spheres of trade and economy, transport and communication, construction and textile industry and other sectors which provided the requisites for successful partnership on the basis of the potential and complimentarily of the national economies.

Focusing on the specific character of the relations with Turkey which Turkmenistan was bound with the geographical proximity as well as age-old cultural and historical kinship Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appreciated the impressive results of the activity of the Turkish companies and firms actively collaborating in the large-scale projects in Turkmenistan, in particular the Balkan Velayat.

Informing of the Turkish business’s intense interest in expanding on the very promising Turkmen market Abdullah Gul noted that he had got acquainted and appreciated the scale of one of the most grandiose projects – the future world-class resort on the Caspian Sea coast that the Turkish companies collaborated in as well.

In conclusion Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Abdullah Gul reaffirmed the reciprocal willingness to make the traditional intergovernmental dialogue more constructive and fruitful and expressed belief that Turkmen-Turkish co-operation would further symbolize friendship and fraternity between two peoples.
