OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. On the instructions of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdieva received the credentials of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Ivan Viranata Atmaja.

On behalf of the Turkmen leader the head of the national Parliament congratulated the guest on the appointment to the high diplomatic post and wished success in strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Indonesia.

Thanking for the heartfelt wishes the diplomat emphasized that he considered it great honour to represent his country in the state that had profoundly advanced in the social, economic and cultural development within a short period. The diplomat noted that the progressive reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the happiness and welfare of the Turkmen people were of intense interest to Indonesia.

The Speaker of the Mejlis briefed the guest on the major trends in the Turkmen leader’s policy and the large-scale national projects and programmes in various sectors of the domestic economy and in the priority social sphere. The focus of the conversation was the activity of Turkmen Parliament, its role and contribution to the ongoing democratic reforms in the country.

Exchanging views on the perspectives of bilateral cooperation the sides put emphasis on the necessity to intensify the intergovernmental dialogue in such fields as fuel and energy sector, construction industry and humanitarian sphere. The sides focused on the significance of establishing the interparliamentary contacts as a factor of enhancing mutual confidence and understanding between the two peoples advancing along the path of democratic development.

In conclusion the Speaker of the Mejlis and her guest expressed belief that the Turkmen-Indonesian relations would be brought up to a new level meeting the mutual potential and interests in the near future.
