OREANDA-NEWS. February 24, 2009. On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Speaker of the Mejlis A. Nurberdieva receive the credentials of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Turkmenistan Marcelo de la Caridad Caballero Torres.

On behalf of the Turkmen leader the Speaker of the Turkmen Parliament congratulated the guest on appointing to the important diplomatic post and wished success in enhancing the ties of friendship and cooperation between two countries. Thanking for the heartfelt congratulations and wishes the Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of the leadership of the Republic of Cuba to the Turkmen leader.

The Speaker briefed the diplomat on the major trends in Turkmenistan’s internal and foreign policies focused on the development of constructive cooperation with all countries worldwide and the large-scale reforms and programmes initiated by the Turkmen leader. In this context A. Nurberdieva informed the diplomat of the priority aspects of the work of the national Parliament, in particular on the upgrading of the national legislation.

Showing keen interest in the reforms going on in the Turkmen land the diplomat emphasized that he considered it great honour to represent his country in Turkmenistan whose progressive policy and peacemaking initiatives had won it the high international prestige. The Cuban Ambassador noted that despite the geographical remotes two countries had the vast opportunities to develop mutually advantageous cooperation meeting the interests of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Cuba.

Exchanging views on the trends in intergovernmental collaborations the sides touched upon the perspectives of partnership particular in the sphere of healthcare and tourism. In this regard the Ambassador informed of Cuba’s interest in the project on creation of Avaza national tourism zone on the Caspian Sea coast.

The sides called for establishing the inter-parliamentary contacts.

In conclusion the sides expressed belief that the Turkmen-Cuban relations would be built on the goodwill of two countries and the existing potential of cooperation.
