OREANDA-NEWS. On April 5, a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hirofumi Nakasone, took place at the Japanese side’s initiative.

Its chief topic was the launch of an artificial Earth satellite by the DPRK. The sides exchanged views on the resulting tense situation and prospects for its examination in the UN Security Council. It was noted, however, that the Russian side will proceed from a judgment about what happened based on incoming objective information on the launch’s parameters. The need was also stressed for joint action by concerned states to keep up stability in Northeast Asia and for continued six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear problem.
