OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2009. Pursuant to the decision adopted on April 1 at the meeting of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev with US President Barack Obama, the first round of Russian-American talks to draft a new full-fledged agreement to replace the START Treaty was held in Moscow from May 19-20.

In the debate, a broad range of issues was discussed relating to the preparation of a future agreement along with considering possible parameters for a progress report to be submitted to the presidents of the two countries in July.

The sides agreed to hold the next round of talks on June 1-3 in Geneva.
