OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2009.  A traditional meeting took place in Moscow on June 18 between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, and the ambassadors of the European Union member states and the head of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Russian Federation.

The minister gave a positive assessment of the cooperation between Russia and the European Union during the Czech presidency of the EU in the first half of 2009. He answered questions from participants of the meeting concerning assurance of the security of Russian natural gas supply to the EU through the territory of Ukraine, WTO-related problems, the formation of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and the upcoming Russia-US summit. The initiative of President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev for a European Security Treaty, the situation surrounding Abkhazia and South Ossetia and other themes of the international agenda also were discussed at the event.
