OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2009. Dmitry Medvedev sent greetings to participants and guests at the 15th summit of heads of state and government from member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

The message reads, in part: “Russia has a long-standing partnership and mutual respect with the Non-Aligned Movement, which unites more than one half of the world’s nations. The movement is founded on a sense of common responsibility for the fate of the modern world, the recognition of its diversity in culture and civilisations, and the right of every state to an individual path of development.

We are happy to see that you are ready to engage in wide-ranging cooperation, willing to hold constructive discussions on the most difficult issues, and open to compromise. These are the necessary prerequisites in order for humanity to find adequate solutions for the many challenges and threats that stand before us in the 21st century.

We are certain that in order to build a new global architecture, we must use a variety of formats. The states present at today’s meeting will play a key role in this process.

We feel that the Non-Aligned Movement is one of the key elements in a multi-focal world order, and we are ready to increase cooperation to further promote international stability, in the interest of your nations and your peoples, and the entire global community.”
