OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2009. In his new Presidential Reception Office, Dmitry Medvedev personally examined a number of messages sent to him by citizens, and gave corresponding instructions to the heads of federal and regional government agencies.
 
Citizens from four Russian regions addressed the President in a video conference format. The topics included the issue of building pedestrian bridges over the federal M60 Ussuri highway in a suburb of Vladivostok (in the Far Eastern Federal District), the construction of water supply system in the village of Navlya in the Bryansk Region (in the Central Federal District), where the residents from areas affected by radioactive contamination following the Chernobyl disaster were resettled.

There were two issues concerning the Southern Federal District - on gas supply of Atamano-Vlasovka farmstead (khutor) in the Rostov Region, and on measures to improve the environmental situation in the city of Kalach-on-Don following storage in the city’s port of industrial sulphur.

Governor of the Kurgan Region Oleg Bogomolov reported on the results of reviewing an appeal from Tebenyakskoe village residents. A foot bridge over the river was reconstructed there, following instructions by the President.

Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Georgy Boos reported on carrying out the instructions received from the President following the last reception, on April 9 of this year. The instructions addressed maintaining rehabilitation services and creating early intervention groups and day centres for children with disabilities at the Centre for Restorative Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The President also met with people who came to the reception office.

One of the visitors at the President’s reception was Valery Chkalov, president of the International Chkalov Memorial Charity Fund and grandson of Valery Chkalov, the well-known pilot. He suggested creating a steering committee to prepare and conduct events honouring the 75th anniversary of the first non-stop flight by Valery Chkalov and his crew from Moscow to Vancouver, Washington, via the North Pole, on June 18-20, 1937. President Medvedev gave instructions to submit proposals on creating such a steering committee by October 1, and to look into the issue of providing assistance to the Valery Chkalov memorial museum in the city of Chkalovsk (in the Nizhny Novgorod Region) by January 1, 2010.

The President also met with Tatyana Polubinskaya. She talked about the doctors at the V. A. Baranov state hospital in Petrozavodsk (in the Republic of Karelia) who saved her brother’s life. Mr Medvedev suggested rewarding the doctors and gave Governor of Karelia Sergei Katanandov instructions to draft corresponding proposals.

According to the rules governing the Presidential Executive Office, presidential aides, the Chief of Staff of the Executive Office, and his deputies will meet with citizens twice a year. This is the second time that President Medvedev is meeting personally with citizens.
