During the talks, the two presidents discussed issues related to the global financial crisis, trends in changing oil prices, cooperation in the oil sector, and regional problems. The President of Russia noted that Russia and Venezuela have similar or very compatible positions on nearly all issues.

Mr Medvedev announced that agreements had been reached during the talks, which will take relations between the two nations to a fundamentally new strategic level. Mr Medvedev stated that the set of documents signed by the two leaders was unprecedented.

Based on the outcomes of the meeting, the two presidents signed an Agreement on Cooperation in implementing joint strategic projects. Other agreements were signed at the meeting as well, on cooperation in the oil, finance, and military-technical fields.

Following the talks, the two leaders gave a joint press conference.
