OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2009. In their one-on-one talks, the two presidents discussed issues on the international agenda, the coordination of foreign policy and noted the convergence of their views concerning international developments. The presidents of Russia and Ecuador spoke in favour of a multipolar world, one that takes into account the interests of all countries and strengthens international institutions that have stood the test of time such as the United Nations.

In talks involving delegations from both countries, issues related to extending cooperation in various fields, including joint projects in oil production and refining, mining, electricity, agriculture and fisheries, were among those discussed.

Following the talks, Dmitry Medvedev and Rafael Correa signed a Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ecuador.

A number of bilateral documents, including two intergovernmental agreements, one on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and the other on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters, were signed in the presence of the presidents.

There were also signed a memorandum on cooperation in energy and a memorandum on joint efforts in the development of G4 communication and wireless data transmission Mobile WiMAX technology in Ecuador.

A contract was signed to supply Ecuador with two military transport Mi-171E helicopters. There was also a protocol of intent signed regarding a special regime for the implementation of hydropower projects between INTER RAO UES [Unified Energy Systems] and Eximbank of Russia, of the one part, and Hidrotoapi S.A., of the other part.

In addition, the Government of Vladivostok (Russia) and the Municipality of Manta (Ecuador) signed an agreement to twin their cities.
