OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2009. Bilateral consultations between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yeliseyev took place in Moscow, as previously arranged by the two countries’ Foreign Ministers.

In a businesslike and frank vein, the two discussed various aspects of the streamlining of the security architecture in Europe in the context of the initiative to conclude a European Security Treaty. They also examined the situation in the disarmament sphere and exchanged assessments of the development of Russian and Ukrainian relations with NATO, as also with the European Union, including with regard to the upcoming entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty.

Overall, the consultations helped discuss a broad range of questions of mutual concern, including those where disagreements remain.

It was agreed to continue dialogue between the foreign affairs agencies regarding the problems touched on.
