OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2010. Dmitry Medvedev sent a message to King of Bahrain Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah setting out his vision for developing relations between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The message reads, in part:

“I have warm recollections of our meeting in Moscow in December 2008. The agreements we reached then gave a big boost to developing the reciprocally useful dialogue that has become the base for building up our cooperation in all different areas.

We consider it particularly important to expand Russian-Bahraini trade and economic relations.”

Mr Medvedev said that “Russia’s participation in the first Bahrain International Airshow BIAS 2010, taking place under the King of Bahrain’s patronage, creates new opportunities for strengthening our economic contacts”.

The message also said that, “along with continued efforts to develop our trade and economic ties, our countries’ cooperation on the international stage also deserves a high assessment. Today, as before, it is emperative to coordinate efforts to stabilise the situation in the Persian Gulf. Russia’s proposed concept for guaranteeing security in this strategically important region, which has received Bahrain’s support, could provide an effective basis for this. It is also essential to work energetically on obtaining a fair and comprehensive peace for the Middle East as a whole”.

The President noted he was sure that “the constructive and mutually advantageous relations between Russia and Bahrain would continue to grow in all areas for the benefit of our countries and in the interests of peace, stability, equal dialogue between civilisations, and political settlement of conflict situations”.

The message was passed on to the King of Bahrain Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah by Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, currently visiting the country.
