OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2010. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived on the first official visit to the Turkmen capital on April 1.

Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov and other officials greeted the head of the largest international organisation at the Ashgabat International Airport decorated with the flags of the United Nations and Turkmenistan

From the airport the cortege of the UN Secretary-General headed for the official residence at the fashionable President Hotel.

An official meeting between the UN Secretary-General and President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which is the main item of the agenda of the distinguished guest’s visit to Turkmenistan, will take place in the Cabinet of Minister buildings on April 2. The sides are expected to exchange views on a wide range of the issues of bilateral and international cooperation of mutual interest.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia and the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan during his first visit to Ashgabat

The very rich agenda including a series of the bilateral meetings as well as the positive atmosphere of the visit inspire with confidence that the coming talks will be a critical step to expand the long-term fruitful dialogue between Turkmenistan and the United Nations and fill it with a new content in common interests.

The distinguished guest and the members of the UN delegation will visit the landmarks of the Turkmen capital and its suburbs.
