OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2010. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, paid an official visit to the People’s Republic of China on June 4.

In Beijing Lavrov was received by President Hu Jintao of the People’s Republic of China, and Dai Bingguo, Member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

Talks were held with Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. The heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries examined in detail the current issues in Russian-Chinese relations. This year’s schedule of political contacts was verified and progress in the preparation of the upcoming official visit to China by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, as well as the SCO June summit in Tashkent was discussed.

Lavrov and Yang exchanged views on topics related to the 65th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, including the implementation of the plan of joint activities to commemorate this anniversary.

The ministers discussed some of the most pressing global and regional issues, including increasing cooperation in the format of the SCO, RIC, BRIC, G20 and other multilateral organizations, overcoming the effects of the financial and economic crisis in the world, as well as the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and around the Iranian nuclear program. At the same time certain aspects of the topic dealing with UN reform were touched on.

The talks were held in a trustful, constructive and friendly atmosphere, demonstrating the focus of Russia and China on the further all-round development of the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership and deeper coordination in international and regional affairs.

Lavrov has invited Yang to pay an official visit to the Russian Federation in 2011. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
