OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2010. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Denisov, who had arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the international conference of the Central Asian and the Caspian states on disarmament issues.

Thanking for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes on behalf of RF President Dmitriy Medvedev and RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who had expressed commitment to the traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan.

Deputy Minister A. Denisov said that Russia supported Turkmenistan’s peacemaking initiatives aimed at concerting global efforts to achieve peace and security. In this context the guest focused on the timeliness and importance of the Turkmen leader’s initiative to hold the international forum on disarmament issues in the Caspian Sea Basin and Central Asia.

Greeting the representative of the RF MFA, the Turkmen leader expressed the best wishes of happiness and every success in the important activity to the leadership of the Russian Federation and emphasized that partnership with Russia based on the centuries old ties of friendship and mutual understanding remained a key vector of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy.

The sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Russian cooperation brought to a higher level in recent years. Reaffirming that Turkmenistan and Russia remained committed to intensifying the political dialogue, the Turkmen leader and his guest discussed the priorities of further constructive partnership in both the bilateral and multilateral formats including in the framework of the international organisations.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the predecessor bilateral agreements aimed at intensifying interstate collaboration on the principles of equality and respect to mutual interests. The major fields of cooperation included the trade and economic sphere, the fuel and energy sector and the humanitarian field in which the profound positive experience of collaboration had been accumulated.

During the meeting the Russian diplomat congratulated heartily President of Turkmenistan, Academician of the Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medicine, Professor Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the publication of the second volume of his book “The Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan” and underscored the theoretical and practical value of the book for further development of Turkmen as well as world medical science.

In conclusion the guest focused on the significance of the Turkmen leader’s initiative to hold the international conference on disarmament issues and expressed belief that the Ashgabat forum would be an important step to develop new approaches to responding to this urgent problem facing humanity today.
