OREANDA-NEWS. September 22, 2010. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Helen Clark, Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in the United Nations building in New York.

Greeting the head of one of the largest agencies of the United Nations, the Turkmen leader focused with satisfaction on the growing dynamics of Turkmenistan-UN collaboration that testified to the fruitfulness of cooperation with the UNDP, which had resulted in a number of completed and ongoing joint projects in the country.

Noting that she was very glad to meet with the President of Turkmenistan, the country that had the reputation as a dependable and responsible partner of the United Nations, Ms. Helen Clark focused on Turkmenistan’s active contribution to the international dialogue to respond to urgent problems and challenges of the modern world. In this regard, the UNDP Administrator congratulated the Turkmen leader on the success of his speech at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly and underscored the timeliness of the Turkmen leader’s new constructive initiatives aimed at strengthening global peace and security, ensuring sustainable development on the planet.

Emphasizing that Turkmenistan attached great significance to partnership with the UN and built it on a long-term basis, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to the strategy for intensifying this cooperation as well as its willingness to contribute to searching for optimal solutions to problems of particular concern to humanity.

During the talks the leader of Turkmenistan and the UNDP Administrator discussed the priorities and prospects for effective collaboration based on the positive experience of joint working accumulated in recent years. The ample opportunities to broaden and deepen traditional cooperation were opened up by large-scale socio-economic reforms launched in Turkmenistan to guarantee a new life quality and improve people’s welfare.

Evaluating highly Turkmenistan’s achievements on the path of progressive reforms launched in all spheres of life of the Turkmen state and society, Ms. Helen Clark noted that having boosted substantially the socio-economic growth, these reforms laid the firm foundation for further development.

In conclusion the President of Turkmenistan and the UNDP Administrator expressed belief that effective Turkmenistan-UN cooperation would be embodied in new joint projects aimed at implementing national programmes as well as achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
