OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2010. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had a meeting in the capital of Azerbaijan, where the Turkmen leader had arrived to participate in the Caspian Summit.

Warmly and brotherly greeting each other, the leaders exchanged the congratulations on Kurban bayramy worshiped by all Muslims in the world and expressed the best wishes of further progress and prosperity of the Turkmen and the Iranian people.

During the meeting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad evaluated highly the dynamics of the intergovernmental dialogue, which had been notably intensified in recent years and filled with a new concrete content and focused on the mutual intention to strengthen and develop the constructive political dialogue, enhance fruitful cooperation in the trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres.

It was noted during the meeting that developing consistently mutually advantageous and friendly relations, Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran cooperated closely to strengthen further the ties of friendship between our peoples. The striking examples of it included the construction of the Dovletabad-Sarahs-Hangeran gas pipeline under the bilateral agreements on significant increases of Turkmen gas supplies to Iran.

During the conversation the sides called for intensifying mutually advantageous partnership in the implementation of large-scale joint projects that contributed to the welfare and prosperity of the two friendly countries and the region as a whole. Among these projects was the ongoing construction of the North-South transport corridor, which vividly exemplified mutually advantageous cooperation in a regional format.

The sides discussed topical international and regional issues of mutual interest, the current state and prospects for multilateral cooperation as well as the issues related to the progress in determining the legal status of the Caspian Sea and expressed belief that building cooperation on friendship and good neighbourly relations among the five Caspian states met the fundamental interests their peoples and served as an essential factor in ensuring security and sustainable development in the region.

Focusing on the importance of building up partnerships to address environmental problems, ensure efficient use and reproduction of biological resources of the Caspian Sea and achieve energy, transport and regional security, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Iran reiterated their determination to provide comprehensive support and assistance to turn the Caspian region into a region of peace and stability, economic progress, good neighbourliness and equal international cooperation of the littoral states.

In conclusion President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed keen interest in maintaining the full-scale intergovernmental dialogue, a key success factor of which was the political will and the existing profound resource and economic potential of the two countries.
