OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2011. President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko arrived on an official visit to Turkmenistan on April 27.

Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and other officials greeted the distinguished guest at the Ashgabat International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries. Boys and girls offered bread and salt and presented bouquets of wonderful flowers to the President of the Republic of Belarus. The Belarusian leader’s cortege headed from the airport to the residence at the Oguzkent Hotel in the Turkmen capital.

The official ceremony of meeting the President of the Republic of Belarus will anticipate the top level talks. The top level talks are expected to result in signing a number of important documents aimed at promoting traditionally friendly relationships between our countries and implementing fully the potential of Turkmen-Belarusian cooperation in compliance with modern realities and mutual interests. Furthermore, this top level meeting in Ashgabat is new vivid evidence for the partners’ commitment to the policy of full partnership that the partners have all favourable prospects to intensify.

Expressing the willingness to use fully the existing opportunities to intensify fruitful contacts in all important fields, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Belarus take a constructive approach to cooperation endeavouring to develop it on a long-term and regular basis.

The fact that the intergovernmental dialogue has gained the qualitatively new dynamics in recent years is vividly testified by effectiveness of the talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Aleksander Lukashenko, which took place in June 2009 in Ashgabat and in January 2010 in Minsk and laid the form foundations for comprehensive promotion of trade and economic partnerships as well as expansion of fruitful humanitarian and cultural contacts.

Expressing the mutual interest in speeding up practical implementation of the agreements, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Belarus take specific, effective steps for this purpose. In this context a new Turkmen-Belarusian meeting at the high level will provide an opportunity to discuss in detail key issues of cooperation at the current stage and elaborate the plans for future collaboration as consistent with socio-economic development priorities of the two states and the possibility to launch new joint projects.

Thus, the Belarusian leader’s visit to Turkmenistan and the forthcoming top-level talks will contribute to strengthening and fostering further the ties of friendship and mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries meeting modern realities and the interests of our brotherly peoples.
