OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2011. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on June 1 received for a conversation the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Bogdan Borusewicz, who is on an official visit to Russia.

An exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues in Russian-Polish relations. Lavrov and Borusewicz noted with satisfaction their constructive development in many areas, including the positive momentum in inter-parliamentary ties and in public, youth, cultural and humanitarian contacts.

They gave high marks for the activities of the Forum of Regions under the aegis of the upper houses of the Russian and Polish parliaments, whose third meeting on regional cooperation in innovation and high tech industries is being held these days in Moscow and its suburban science cities.

In the context of discussing Poland’s upcoming EU presidency, they underscored the importance of making headway in priority areas for Russia-EU cooperation and, in particular, the common interest of the two countries in expeditiously signing a Russian-Polish intergovernmental agreement on procedures for local border traffic of residents of the Kaliningrad Region and the adjacent areas of Poland.

During their conversation Lavrov and Borusewicz also touched upon the issue of strengthening pan-European security, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, and the settlement of a number of regional conflicts.
