OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2011. President Viktor Yanukovych has met with EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom.

Speaking at the meeting President Yanukovych said Ukraine is interested in the EU really seeing that our country continues to reform its economy and is changing.

"We hope the EU will soon make a decision on the liberalization of visa regulations," he said. President Yanukovych called it a very sensitive issue for the citizens of Ukraine, adding that taking the decision is crucial before signing an association agreement.

The President said Ukraine is also interested in establishing the FTA with the EU. "We sincerely wish that Europe was open as widely as possible to the citizens of Ukraine," Viktor Yanukovych said.

For her part, the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs noted that she has spent two very productive days in Ukraine, and has had meetings with the First Vice Prime Minister Andriy Klyuyev and Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko. "We had a very productive meeting, during which we have discussed issues of common interest in justice and home affairs," Cecilia Malmstrom said.
