OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2012. The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Healthcare must study the situation on the domestic market of medications, particularly with their quality and pricing adequacy, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s meeting of the NSDC.

"How can it be that in a few years, the price of some groups of medications went up 5-8 times?" he said, stressing that the issue of price and availability of medications needs to be addressed by strengthening the relevant legislation, increasing the responsibility of manufacturers, regulating the activities of wholesale suppliers, etc. Among the main causes of growing medication prices Viktor Yanukovych named the monopolization of the market and the lack of state control.

The President drew particular attention to the need to introduce a system of state control over the quality of medicines. "It is necessary to urgently raise the effectiveness of certification procedures. It is literally a matter of life of our people," he said.

President Yanukovych also said he would request the Verkhovna Rada to urgently adopt amendments to the legislation in order regulate the situation on the market of medications in Ukraine.
