OREANDA-NEWS. December 06, 2012. A round-table meeting taken place in the Grand Turkmen Hotel in Ashgabat focused on the tasks of cooperation in the social sphere within the framework of the broadening partnership between Turkmenistan and the structural agencies of the United Nations Organisation, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Among the participants of the meeting organized by the UNDP in Turkmenistan were the representatives of the UN, OSCE, UNICEF, the Europe House (EU) and other international organizations as well as the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, a number of ministries and departments of our country, the Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, public organisations and media.

The work of the six sessions was devoted to the urgent issues of the social and economic adaptation of disabled persons.

It was noted during the meeting that the practical steps in this regard included improvement of the legal system in the social sphere, the successful implementation of national programmes aimed at creating the necessary conditions for the comprehensive and harmonious development of people with disabilities, including the construction of new educational institutions, health centres, sports facilities supplied with the most advanced equipment, opening new schools and boarding schools, etc.

Expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, the round-table participants called for further strengthening of the mutually beneficial contacts in this area within the framework of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNDP.
