The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an independent international organisation founded in 1971 in Geneva. Members include over one thousand large companies and organisations from over 50 nations, of which about 20 are business organisations from Russia. The Forum aims to help the global community resolve socioeconomic issues and to expand international trade and economic cooperation.

Many groups and clubs with different professional interests have been created within WEF, including business leaders, heads of leading global media outlets, heads of companies and organisations of various industries, heads of national research organisations, and outstanding individuals from the arts. In recent years, the Global Leaders of Tomorrow and High Technology Pioneers associations have been formed.

The Forum’s budget comes from annual membership fees and funds contributed by participants of WEF events.
