OREANDA-NEWS. President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree according to which an environmental tax is introduced on the transit transportation of oil and oil products through the pipelines located in the territory of the country.

According to the presidential press service, the decree established a profit tax rate of 50 %. Representatives of the presidential administration noted that this measure was introduced with the aim of forming a source of funds to eliminate environmental consequences in the event of possible accidents connected with oil pipelines. The environmental tax will also provide support to oil and gas companies of Belarus in case of force majeure situations.
