OREANDA-NEWS. The government of Canada intends to take countermeasures in response to the United States imposing a 10 % tariff on Canadian aluminum imports.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Christia Freeland. The politician called the imposing tariffs by Washington unfounded and unacceptable. Freeland stated the import of Canadian aluminum does not undermine the national security of the United States of America. In connection with the actions of Washington, Ottawa intends to introduce reciprocal symmetric duties on American imports.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump reported of the resumption of custom duties on aluminum imports from Canada in the amount of 10 %. The head of the White House declared that Canada plans to harm the American aluminum industry.
