OREANDA-NEWS. Material damage to the economy of Crimea from being a part of Ukraine and from water, food and energy blockades after 2014 amounts to hundreds of billions of US dollars. This was stated by the Chairman of the Crimean parliament Vladimir Konstantinov.

In March 2019, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin instructed to calculate the economic losses during the time when Crimea was part of Ukraine in order to demand compensation from Kiev.

“We need to calculate how much compensation we need to receive for the attempt to destroy us as a nation. This was the aim of the coup [In 2014 in Ukraine. – Ed.], and as far as I understand, this aim remains now… The price of our claims is very high, it amounts to hundreds of billions dollars,” Konstantinov said. The exact number is to be calculated in near future, he added.

Konstantinov noted that the calculation of the damage will touch upon several main periods, such as being as a part of Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR and the modern period which began in 2014.
